An uncompromising view of the present
According to advertisements, the Wachowski brothers have helmed an “Uncompromising view of the future” with their latest movie, V For Vendetta. This uncompromising view is, of course, a fascist future against which a man and a woman in love must join together and fight. Nothing brings average-looking cranky men and sexy rebel women together like totalitarian state oppression in the future that only they can topple. It started with We, and should have stopped with 1984.
I’m tired of uncompromising views of the future. I want an uncompromising view of the present! And since everyone agrees that the present is exactly one second long, a movie brave and uncompromising enough to tackle the present as it actually is would be a two hour movie composed of 7,200 one second moments from all over the world at the exact same time. Artistic, yet the MTV generation would love it. So would teenagers!
They could be documentary moments or made-up moments, or a mixture of the two. Doesn’t really matter since you’re not going to figure out what’s going on in one second anyway. But that’s what the present is! Impossible to grasp!
By the way, an uncompromising view of the past would show that the 1950s were bland.
