Here’s an idea: a blog about ideas!

I have no problem with people using any idea of mine that I post here. Besides motivating myself to transcribe my notes and get working on the projects that I actually want to finish, that’s the point. But I never said anybody could steal the idea for this blog!

Then again, I never said they couldn’t. So now comes…

NewIdeaBlog.com

It’s been around for a few days, and has only two entries up. The first entry has no ideas in it, just breathless, hyperbolic exclamations about the cornucopia of ideas that will soon spill across the pages. Please excuse his “grammar” (self-deprecating quotes his); English is his second language:

*How many of us have had ideas that were never put into action and simply forgotten? How many of is have thought “…only if they new about my idea!”

*How many of us have shared their new idea with friend, family or co-worker just to realize that you dont have time or resources to make it a reality?

*How many of us have said: “I need a new Idea…”, “I have a new idea!…”.

*How many of us have whished for a place to share new ideas all at the same time, any time and from anywhere?

Why, me…! But he goes on.

I have lots of ideas, ideas can come to me at any moment one-by-one orin packs. Ideas about products, technologies, movie storylines, business concepts, save the world grand plans, marketing schemes, pranks - you name it, I’ve got one for you. They come as avalanches and they come as humble visitors. Often the rapidity of their accend lifts me up and sometimes my head gets so full of the new ideas that I start “tipping over” hitting my head on the floor…

Honestly, it seems doubtful that he read Idea Province before starting his own idea blog (still only have a 31 hits a day average), but the description is remarkably similar, even including a category for prank ideas.

The tone, however, is completely different. NewIdeaBlog.com vascillates between wild self-worship and good natured self-loathing. The slogan of the blog is, “Doppeler Effect: The tendency of stupid ideas to seem smarter when they come at you rapidly,” essentially admitting, “This blog is trying to fool you.”

On the other hand, he brags, “As the site grows, I will get rich on google ads.” And he hints that he has the solution to all the world’s ills.

Last time it happened (the tipping over thing)… you guessed it, I got a new Idea - I thought that it would be great if there would be a place where I could spill them over and reduce that “Dopeler Effect”…. I thought what a great Idea that would be and the idea of such a place immedeately started to branch out into more ideas and more ideas, which usually leads to “finding a solution” of how to achieve the World Peace or its counterpart World domination. So I proceeded with setting up this site as fast as I could to outrun the usual conclusion of the “Dopeler Effect” (see header). So here comes the newIDEAblog.com. The above may sound humorous, but it is not that simple as you might find out at the end.

Again with the contradictions. Creative genius or blithering idiot, World Peace or World Domination, how to choose, how to choose?

I’m not sure I get his use of the Doppler Effect, which Wikipedia says means:

…the apparent change in frequency or wavelength of a wave that is perceived by an observer moving relative to the source of the waves. For waves, such as sound waves, that propagate in a wave medium, the velocity of the observer and the source are reckoned relative to the medium in which the waves are transmitted. The total Doppler effect may therefore result from either motion of the source or motion of the observer.

And this is what’s going on in his brain? I don’t understand.

He appears more excited about the mere prospect of ideas than the ideas themselves. The little logo next to the URL is a lightbulb, and he talks about ideas and the future of his blog so excitedly that Joe wanted to bet me he wouldn’t post a second entry. I didn’t take the bet (though clearly I should have), because his rhetoric was so similar to that of the ambitious, thrilled-with-itself (failed) blog “Provoke.”

Here is Provoke’s entire first entry, dated February 18, 2004:

Welcome to Provoke, a daily debate regarding current affairs that affect you. Every day I’ll be posing questions and inviting participants from around the world to engage in a thoughtful, informed, and passionate discussion of the issues and events that matter to you.

My goal here is to explore all sides of the issues and leave no stone unturned. Debate, of course, breeds passion and therefore I’ll be moderating the discussion with an aim to maintain a balance of opinion and mutual respect.

Topics fall under the general categories of: Culture, Politics, Beliefs, and Opinion. Choose a side and take a stand!

That was also Provoke’s very last entry.

A fate that fortunately - for the intellectual and technological advancement world - did not befall NewIdeaBlog.com, as it posted a second entry today.

Falling in the shower while reaching for pumice stone… Did it happen to you? Well, if it did not - you are lucky.

Here is the idea - combination of the pumice stone (like a sand paper) and shower mat that sticks to the shower floor.
Will stop from slipping and can be used as pumice stone - much more efficient then a regular pumice stone.
Someone will make millions…

That’s no less reasonable than my idea for subways that turn into self-cleaning ovens at the end of the line.

So it looks like I’ve got some honest to goodness competition. Or, I should say, a comrade in idea arms.

Everyone, please give Fresco of NewIdeaBlog.com a polite how-dee-doo. And be sure to click on his Google ads. This man’s going to be a millionaire.
