It Came From the Bronx
An animated short that opens on a group of New York hipsters on a relatively empty northbound 6 express subway train. They’re talking about indie music, the films they’re working on, clothes they’ve sold, things they’ve thrown and whatnot. They’ve distracted themselves so fully that they don’t notice when they get to their stop, 125th street, the final stop in Manhattan. The doors shut, and the next stop is announced - 3rd Avenue, 138th street… The Bronx.
They look at each other nervously and giggle. Then they chat in hushed tones. None of them have ever been to The Bronx. Is it as dangerous as everyone says it is? It’s been getting better, what with the new Yankee Stadium, right? Still, while they don’t want to seem racist, the idea of going to the Bronx kind of scares them. They try to hide their fear.
After a tense couple of minutes, they get the first stop in The Bronx, ready to hop out, run to the other side, and take the train back into the safety of Manhattan. But then, as soon as they step off the train, a monstrous, fat, 30-foot tall black man grabs them all in his giant hand, bites their heads off, rolls the heads around in his mouth and swallows them, finally crushing their bodies, splattering their blood everywhere.
Cut to the 4-5-6 stop at Union Square in Manhattan. A hipster is entertaining his friends with a story about some time he accidentally almost took the train into The Bronx, but he got off and turned around just in time. Not that the Bronx is really all that dangerous. It’s just, it’s got that reputation, you know, and he has to admit that almost going in there scared the hell out of him. Luckily he’s in deep Manhattan now.
Their train finally arrives, the platform pulls up, and as they step forward, the doors open and the monstrous black man from before steps out, decapitates everyone and eats them all.
The lesson here is that you may think you’re safe in Manhattan, but remember… the trains go both ways.
