Will Ferrell gets mugged
This movie scene idea comes from Joseph Weisenthal (with a little bit of input from your’s truly!):
A hapless character played by Will Ferrell gets mugged by an African American man in broad daylight. It’s a brutal job. Will Ferrel is cut, punched, scraped, has a black eye, a giant lump on top of his head with a bandage covering it, and even has one of his teeth knocked out.
He doesn’t have his phone on him, and the apartment he shares with his girlfriend is nearby, so he goes straight there. He bursts through the door, panting and sweating, and annouces to his girlfriend that he just got brutally mugged and almost killed. He asks for the phone so he can call the cops and report it, screaming that he wants to give the man the electric chair. Will Ferrell is just about to tell her what the mugger looked like, until… he sees that his wife has an African American friend over.
He suddenly changes the subject to some hassle he had at work.
But his girlfriend, who is holding the phone out for him to take so he can call the cops - and hopefully get the mugger put to death - keeps pressing him for details.
Will Ferrell hems and haws and vaguely describes the mugger while looking at his girlfriend’s friend nervously: “Well, he was about my height. Kind of tallish. Not too short, though. Just about my size if I remember right. Pretty much a medium build, though that’s up for debate. Was he medium build? Yeah, I’d say so. And I think he was wearing some kind of a suede dress shoe. No, it was a sneaker. Fubu, probably.” He looks at the black friend, and panics. “I mean, New Balance! New Balance! Definitely, New Balance! And I’ll tell you this much. He was not wearing any kind of a Zoot Suit!”
His girlfriend stops him and makes Will Ferrell take the phone so he can give all the details to the cops. But Will Ferrell balks, claiming he doesn’t want to press charges, because, “I’m telling you, Darla, he was more scared than I was!”
She crosses her arms and stares at him.
Cut to a dread-locked, blond-haired, blue eyed, pale skined Scandinavian man wearing New Balance shoes and a Starter Jacket being arrested. Will Ferrell watches and nods reluctantly to the officers, looking guilty.
