The Nigerian Investment Opportunity that Cried Wolf

From David Askin:

A junior account manager at a bank in Nigeria legitimately comes into the opportunity to make out with $40 million if only he can find a fake “heir” in another country in whose account to deposit the money.  He writes an email to long lists of people, which reads just like the typical scam.  Only this time, had anyone responded, they really would have gotten the 10% fee of $4 million, if they’d just trusted him enough to give him their account number (he’s honest enough to want a legitimate business partner).  However, everyone has finally caught on to these scams and so no one responds.

After the time runs out and the money is lost, he goes to the media, stunned that no one would take advantage of this opportunity, and the people who received the email are distraught and inconsolable.
