Atoms are forever

From my Dad, back in April:

Some 16 year old on the peace march today mentioned that now when you’re cremated, they can compressed your carbonized atoms into a diamond. So what if the wife turns her dead husband into a diamond and then has to pawn it for some money to pay the bills? Would his soul be able to view what was happening in the pawn shop? What would happen if he was sold as an engagement ring?
