An Expository Movie
In Minority Report, there’s a scene where Tom Cruise speaks with a wise woman in a greenhouse. The scene is pure, dense exposition, though the crazy moving plants in the greenhouse attempt to distract us from that. The movie got very good reviews, yet wasn’t immune to clunky, unrealistic, plot-advancing dialog in this scene.
Seeing that made me want to isolate the pure exposition scenes from other highly-regarded movies that aren’t immune and edit them together.
What would be funny about seeing these exposition scenes out of context is to fully appreciate how useless they are when they aren’t advancing a plot. It would be a bunch of scenes of people talking in a purely functional way, but serving no actual function for us, since we aren’t seeing the rest of the movie.
