Click-and-Drag-Style Undo

Today I was writing a short film and noticed a section that was better off before I’d changed it a bunch of times. But I couldn’t simply hit undo because that part wasn’t what I’d written most recently, and it would undo everything I’d been working on after that section.

Sure, there are ways around this. I could copy and paste the whole document to another file, hit undo in the original file without having to worry about undoing all the new stuff, retrieve the superior version of that one section, and then copy and paste that part into the new file to arrive at the best of both worlds.

But that’s annoying.

So a cool feature on word processors would be if you could highlight just the part that needs to go back to the good old days and undo it to its previous perfection without affecting everything you’ve written subsequently.

My friend Peter is coding a word processing program as we speak. I’d propose this idea to him, but it’s probably too outlandish.
