The Obsolete Doomsayer

Story about a schizophrenic doomsayer in the late 90s and early 2000s who tells everyone he sees that Muslims are going to knock down the World Trade Center by “attacking from the air.” He has no reason to know this, except that he’s a nutcase.

Early in 2001, he confronts a businessman with his theory, and the businessman is strangely shaken by this baseless prediction. But the businessman eventually convinces himself that it’s nonsense, and nobody else takes the guy on the street seriously enough to even listen. Therefore, no precautions are taken.

But eventually his prognosis comes true. After it does, the amazingly-correct schizophrenic paces around  downtown Manhattan, complaining that nobody listens to him, and if they had, the World Trade Center would still be standing.

The businessman he’d stopped before runs into him again, realizes his prediction was accurate, and hires him to be in charge of his stock portfolio. But the guy is a true psycho who only knew how to predict the destruction of the World Trade Center and nothing else; all his stock predictions are completely off, and the businessman dies penniless.
