Two Movies in One

A movie about a character whose personal life and work don’t overlap at all, and both get equal screen time. So you have the character’s personal life, which has its own plot and subplots, and then you have the character’s work world, which also has its own plot and subplots.

It would be a commentary on the duality of human nature; we have jobs and we have lives, but never the twain shall meet. Plus, as a filmmaker you could hedge your bets. You could have a sad ending to the personal life story, gaining the approval of critics (who all hate happy endings) and the art-house crowd, but end with a triumph in the workplace, guaranteeing the movie has commercial success.
