Heater that releases tiny floating blankets into the air

In time travel movies, it’s always the future that has all the surprises, because history has documented the past so meticulously, there’s not much to discover. It would be cool, though, to go back and time and find a bunch of crazy gadgets nobody has ever heard of that made use of the technology available at the time.

For instance, in the 1700s, heaters were probably devices that spit tiny floating blankets into the air. Once the air reached a saturation point of blankets, the room would be warm, and the heater slow down its blanketing of the room. Since the blankets would disappear after a few minutes in the air (not all at once because they came out at a gradual pace), the heater wouldn’t totally stop making blankets.

Besides being a crazy device in the past, such a heater should also be a product of a character’s drug-induced hallucination.
