A Revised Happiest Country on Earth Survey Skewed to Favor the United States
The Happiest Country On Earth Surveys are annoying because without fail they award a Scandinavian country the top spot every year (Denmark or Iceland, generally) and dump The United States in the lower twenties. That is because these surveys don’t measure our brain chemicals to determine how happy we are. They measure factors that the survey designers subjectively believe should cause happiness. “Do you live in Scandinavia?” is the most important criteria. If you answer “yes,” then you’re happy.
I admit that Iceland seems cool with its Blue Lagoon, but Denmark?? I guess Gorm’s Mound and Gundestrup Cauldron sound alright, but are those two things enough to keep you happy your entire life? It’s a monarchy. How happy can you be under the feudal system? Very happy if you’re the king, who must be the only person who answered the survey.
That’s why I think there should be a Happiest Country on Earth survey designed to award the top spot to The United States. “Do you live in the middle-most country in North America?” If “yes”, then congratulations, you’re happy.
